Pelican Sport - to be built and distributed by the New Kolb
Aircraft Company.
Kolb Aircraft of London Kentucky was on
hand at Airventure with their full stable of fine aircraft, and to announce the
arrival of their newest arrival the Pelican "Sport." An agreement between Kolb
and Ultravia for the distribution and manufacturing rights in the U.S. for the
Pelican Sport has now been finalized. Kolb currently has a kit under
construction which is expected to be finished in the next couple of months.
The Pelican Sport is already certified in
Germany in the FAI -450 category, is approved in Brazil, and is designed to meet
TP 10141 in Canada and the U.S. "This puts the New Kolb Aircraft Company in the
"pole" position when the new Sport Plane category is introduced."
The Pelican Sport utilizes a composite
fuselage, mated to all aluminum wings and tail surfaces. When equipped with the
Rotax 912 S the plane cruises at 130 mph and climbs out at over 1300 fpm. The
Sport is "convertible" that is it can be converted in a matter of hours from a
trike landing configuration to a tail dragger. The Sport is also easily
adaptable to floats and skis.
Airframe kit price at the show was $21.500
or $27,750 U.S. for the 49% factory assembled kit.
