Stace Schrader of Rocky Mountain Wings was
at the show with a beautiful little Ridge Runner. The plane on display built by
Rollie Hatfield had just won Grand Champion Ultralight at the Arlington
airshow. Rollie took delivery of his kit at Sun N Fun last year and had it up
and flying in just under a year, logging in some 350 hours of building time.
This is the first Ridge Runner to be
equipped with the 2si engine, belt drive and Tennessee propeller combination.
Stace was one of the original designers of the Skyraider, which at one time was
also building planes for Kitfox, who use the 2si combination, so Stace has
designed his plane to accept the Skystar 2si engine mount.
Currently the engine has 16 hours on it.
With performance in climb of over 1,000 feet per minute, cruise in the 55
mph range and fuel consumption of about 2.5 gallons per hour.
