Rotax 582 rotary valve shaft kit.
While reading through one of the powered Ultralight Magazines I came across an ad for a system which is claimed to eliminate the Rotary valve shaft problems on the 582 engine.
Joe Grahek, Owner, of the UltraLight Center in Cadillac, MI. sells a water pump conversion kit. The kit consists of a new style tempered rotary valve shaft.  The system apparently equalizes pressure between the seals. I have not seen or used the kit.  For more info contact:

That group, known as the ARAC (Aviation Rulemaking Advisory Committee) Part 103 Working Group, included representatives from EAA, the United States Ultralight Association (USUA), United States Hang Gliding Association (USHGA), North American Powered Parachute Federation (NAPPF), AeroSports Connection (ASC), various ultralight manufacturers and other interested parties...

60 HP - 98 lbs. U.S. Made!hexatron.jpg (166792 bytes)
There was an add for the Hexatron engine in several publications last month. The engine American made, is a two cylinder opposed engine which is suppose to produce 60 HP and weigh around 100 lbs. It apparently is going to be on display in a Merlin at Sun N Fun - other ads said Oshkosh . No website or email that I could find but the company name was Hexatron Engineering Co. Box 26896 Salt lake City Utah 84126-0896 801-363-8010

Rotax 582 Engine  Radiator Cooling  Kit

This kit sells for $119.00 new and consists of 2 radiator air deflectors, hardware, and spacers to mount to the radiator in the picture. This is reported to reduce your engine water temperature up to 30 degrees in the summer heat.
If your engine runs over 170 degrees you are slowly damaging your water seals and water pump shaft. There needs to be airflow for these to be effective.
582 Radiator kit not included .

For more info click here

EDITORS CAUTION: While these may work on powered parachutes - there have been reports that they disrupt the airflow to the tail section - when used on pusher ultralight aircraft.

flightstarhangar.jpg (104239 bytes)$750 Ultralight hangar!
Made from a semi-gable greenhouse structure, and covered with a heavy duty tarp tied off at the front and rear.  The anchor points are trailer home rods driven into the ground, and using motorcycle tie-downs.  Pretty simple, and construction costs around $750 total.

How to minimizing noise in ultralight aircraft radios and intercoms:
Most strobe driver units are designed with filtering and internal shielding to keep radio interference to a minimum, however occasionally noise will be heard over the radio or intercom This noise is almost always caused by the way the systems have been installed. One must remember that noise does not always come from the power that is being supplied to your equipment.

Coming in April - SUN N Fun 2000

There are a couple of articles that I have moved over to the site dealing with two stroke oil they are at:
http://www.ultralightnews.com/features/oilworks.htm
http://www.ultralightnews.com/features/oiltest.htm

The test was conducted by Pennzoil on 4 - 503 Rotax engines run for 280 hours. The pictures and graphs tell quite a story. I will be leaving for Sun N Fun this weekend. Starting April 5th there will be DAILY updates from Sun N Fun posted in the Airshow section. So drop in and browse and don't forget to click on a few banners - I'll need the money when I get back to pay off the VISA bill for fuel for the motorhome.
