Aircraft: All ultralight aircraft using streamlined strut material
Incident report:
While doing a pre-fight on his aircraft the owner noticed one of the recently installed
streamlined struts had developed a crack in the material.
Suggestions:
It is suggested that if you are using this material on your aircraft that you make sure
that you do not over tighten the bolts, at the attachment points, and that the attachment
inserts be of the right diameter. On the craft in question these were, and no explanation
has been found to explain the cracked material.
If using streamlined strut material check it carefully prior to each flight, and
consult with your manufacturer for his recommendations.
