Rotax two stroke aircraft engine exhaust systems: Various ultralight pilots have complained about problems with the Rotax exhaust systems. Most have complained about the side mount exhaust splitting at the elbow, and directly along the welded seam.Others have complained about the baffle inside the exhaust breaking away and clanging around inside the exhaust canister.Others have complained about the spring retention brackets wearing through, or the springs breaking because of the angle that they have to be mounted to reach the brackets. The solution to these problems are varied and in many cases are not the fault of the exhaust system. To address these problems Rotax updated the exhaust systems from a two piece system (consisting of an exhaust manifold going directly into the exhaust) to a 3 piece system which had a Y pipe which goes into a separate 90 degree elbow and then into the exhaust.

K&N Airfilters for Rotax Aircraft Engines have safety tab for securing airfilter to Bing 54 carburator. This is the recommended way of safety wiring an airfilterto a Bing 54 carb when not using an airfilter with thesafety wire tab. On all applications it is recommended the safety wirego UNDER the airfilter clamp and then be secured to thecarb. This holds the clamp and airfilter onto the carbin the event of a loose clamp.
