SOLO ENGINE METHOD OF OPERATION:

Four permanent magnets together with their pole shoes are screwed radially onto the flywheel and form a magnetic system of alternating north and south poles. when the flywheel rotates, a high ignition voltage is generated resulting from an alternating electro-magnetic action between the magnet system and the ignition armature wirings at the instant of firing, i.e., when the breaker points are opened by the cam.

This high ignition voltage effects a spark-over at the spark plug electrodes. The relative position of the flywheel to the armature plate at the instant of firing, when the breaker points open, is called the "break-away points", or just "break-away". The break-away gap must lie within the specified tolerances in order that the full spark-producing power can be generated.

The capacitor connected in parallel to the contact breaker suppresses arcing at the points. This preserves the points and full sparking power is retained. As a rule, the magneto produces one ignition spark per revolution.

Since it rotates with the crankshaft, this corresponds to the requirements of a single-cylinder, 2-stroke engine.

To shut down the engine, the black cable leading out of the unit is simply connected to the engine ground by means of a switch.
