L'il Breezy from Harper Aircraft

One of the best kept secrets in the industry is the L'il Breezy. Over the past 3 years Jack Harper has been modifying his design looking for just the right building style and features.

This year's L'il Breezy stood out as one of the best two seat, back to basic, light sport aircraft at the show. The L'il Breezy is available in kit form, taking about 150 hours to build. The wings come built ready for covering from the factory. The fuselage comes pre-cut using lasers, with all the rivet holes in place. No specials tools or experience are necessary to complete the craft although a compressor and air rivet gun would come in handy.

LIL' BREEZY B-Model
  • Weight: 351lbs. with Rotax 503 engine and two blade Warp Drive prop
  • Gross weight: 800 lbs
  • Cruise speed: 40 to 60 mph
  • Landing speed: 35 mph at 500 lbs
  • Offering: Fast build kits and Ready-to-Fly aircraft available

Controls are standard three axis stick and rudder, with center mounted sticks and dual rudder pedals. The throttles are located just behind and to the left of the the joy sticks. This year Jack has added a nose fairing and windshield to the L'il Breezy, which has a dash area for installation of instruments, radio etc.

A fuel gauge runs down the front of the overhead tank. When flying solo the pilot flies from the front seat. There is an 8 inch travel adjustment on the rudder pedals, to accommodate larger pilots. Both seats are equipped with a 4 point harness, consisting of a lap belt and two should harnesses.

The suspension system has also been changed from a bungee cord system to a fibreglass spring leaf style landing gear. Power is supplied by a Rotax 503 dual carb 50 hp engine. The plane Jack was flying at the show had the shorter single place wing span. All of the new two place models will have a 30' 6" wing span and 125 square feet of wing area.

The L'il Breezy climbs out with the 503 at between 500 and 600 feet per minute, with two 200 lbs. pilots. Cruise comes in at 60 mph at 5500 rpm. Currently Jack has an aircraft in production that will be mounted on floats.
